Lois Auer  

      A native Marylander, Lois grew up learning to appreciate the natural wonders that the Chesapeake Bay area has to hold. Throughout her life she has continued to train herself as a naturalist and environmental educator. In her lectures she is assisted by several non-releasable birds of prey.

         At age twelve her formal art education began and almost immediately she was painting wildlife. Her training continued at the Maryland School of Art & Design, University of Maryland and Towson State University. It took another decade before Lois discovered watercolors and, along with pen & ink, it has been her medium of choice. Lois' portrait style has earned her a loyal following.

      As a former wildlife rehabilitator, Lois has had a lot of "hands-on" experience with her subjects. Their response to her natural rapport with them has helped her to gain a better understanding of animals. Her love and respect for animals and the environment are evident in both her artwork and teaching.
